A subdivision with 22 phases can't tell you the age of the system beside your house. Where more than 8,000 homes went up between 2000 and 2010, the label on your outdoor unit is the quickest way to work out what your system needs: a repair, a tune-up or a replacement.
Your Subdivision Won't Tell You How Old Your AC Is
Woodbridge runs to 3,555 lots over 22 phases, with the final phase announced in January 2021. Neighbors there can be years apart in age, and either may have replaced a system since.
The label on your outdoor unit usually gives a manufacture date, sometimes coded into the serial number. For the house itself, the year built is on your property record, and because Wylie's city limits reach into three counties, that means the Collin Central, Dallas Central or Rockwall Central appraisal district, depending on your address.
If Hail Replaced Your Outdoor Unit, Check the Indoor Coil
The April 2016 storm affected about 80% of Wylie's homes, and there's no public count of how many air conditioners were replaced afterward. If yours was, find out whether the indoor coil was replaced too. That coil sits inside the house where hail can't reach it, so a claim could easily cover the outdoor unit and leave the coil.
A newer outdoor unit on an older coil may not be a matched system, and a house that has never cooled quite right since that storm could be why. Compare the dates on the two labels, and if they're years apart, ask about it.
A Replacement in Wylie Goes Through the City
The City of Wylie's list of work that needs a permit includes "air conditioning and heating system installs and replacements," along with ductwork. Its fee schedule says a mechanical contractor can't receive a permit until registered with the city, and that registration runs January 1 to December 31.
So ask anyone quoting a new system whether their City of Wylie registration is current, and whether they'll pull the permit. The city's adopted codes include the 2021 International Mechanical Code with local amendments, and Building Inspection, at the Municipal Complex on Country Club Road, can confirm what your job requires.
Stork's Home Services serves Wylie and the surrounding neighborhoods from our local office. With 24/7 availability, there’s always someone ready to help.
Three Wylie questions worth settling before you buy a new system.
Something else on your mind? 972-421-8000 is the number.
That depends on which county your part of Wylie falls in: Collin, Dallas or Rockwall. The City of Wylie's maps page links to all three, and your record there shows the year your house was built.
Yes. Air conditioning and heating system installs and replacements are on the city's permit list. The city also lists a homeowner mechanical affidavit among its forms, and Building Inspection can explain when that applies.
It depends on yours. The city's directory lists dozens of Wylie subdivisions with HOAs, including Woodbridge, Birmingham Farms and Bozman Farm Estates. Check your own covenants first if the new unit will sit in a different spot or look different from the street.
Used stork for an HVAC issue and an electrical issue. James was exceptional- explained everything and gave us a lot of valuable insights and ideas to resolve our HVAC issue in the most economical manner. Jimmy (the electrician) was also great - gave us 2 options and didn’t push us to do anything. I highly recommend Stork and will use them again.

Outstanding Service from Shelby. I recently had Shelby from Storks Heating and Air out to service my system, and I couldn’t be more impressed. From the moment he arrived, it was clear I was working with a true professional. Shelby was sharp, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything in a way I could understand. Beyond his technical expertise, what really stood out was how kind and personable he was. He handled the work with care and treated my home with respect. It’s rare to find a technician who combines genuine skill with such a great attitude. Ask for him by name and the whole company are top notch. Highly Reccommend
